Clocked 024 | Happy Holidays

24/12/2017

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to those who are celebrating! My family and I don't celebrate Christmas but I've made an excuse to splurge for myself though I kind of feel guilty now for treating myself that much. In the mean time, I've decided to take three days leave from work so I can have next week off in full and not just on the 25th and 26th.

+ Life at work this month was filled with ups and downs. I think it has something to do with my depression and anxiety perking up, followed by the toxic household environment I have to endure. A few weeks ago, I was emotionally disturbed. I still am but not as horrible as before. December is definitely filled with mixed feelings.

+ I feel like I overspent too much this month. Some of my purchases are necessities and replacements but I still feel guilty about it. My bank account is crying right now.

+ Finally got my last HPV vaccination! I hate paying for medical bills. It's one reason why my bank account is crying too.

+ This week and the last were quite stressful and I was in so much pressure that I've been drinking sugar like an insane person. It's not good, I know and I hate that I was so weak! I planned to cut down sugary drinks or food to twice or thrice a week but when I'm not myself, I tend to be crazy with lots of things. I'm telling myself that I shouldn't consume any Starbucks next week. Fingers crossed.

Ma La Tang

+ Boyfriend took me to a new eatery yesterday. Ma La Tang is an individual-based Chinese hot pot restaurant specializing in Sichuan / Szechuan's signature mala sauce. The concept is similar to ordinary hotpot restaurants where you can pick your ingredients (from different types of fish balls, udon, vegetables, beef slices, etc) and soup base. They will then weigh your choices and charge you based on it. The brand's selling point is basically their Mala soup which I assume is chicken stock mixed with Chinese sauce made with Sichuan peppercorn, chili pepper and various spices simmered in oil.

+ Since both of us are fans of Sichuan cuisine and spicy Chinese food (especially chili oil!), we decided to get ours in Mala soup base. It was soooo good but super spicy as well. We end up buying FOUR cans of Chinese herbal tea to neutralize our tongue. I also felt like the soup really burned my stomach but I regret nothing.

After lunch, we decided to check out the food and lifestyle bazaar in the mall. Technically it's located outside the building and at the mall's public park but whatever, nobody cares.

+  The highlight of this bazaar was definitely that grilled cheese toast boyfriend and I bought for such a budget friendly price. There are three bread types available: original, chocolate and charcoal. I originally wanted the charcoal one but he was so disapproving that we end up getting the chocolate one. It was so damn good! Super cheesy but definitely not too much — which is surprising because how is that even possible!? Usually when you have so much cheese going on in a toast, things will feel too...salty and just nauseous but not this one! The chocolate toast is also the perfect company, no doubt about that.

+ We also tried a garlic and salt pom pom chicken but it wasn't as groundbreaking as the cheese toast — although a grilled cheese toast sounds so ordinary, y'all. If you don't know what pom pom chicken is, it's basically a fried chicken fritter ball meant to imitate the shape of a popcorn. Pom pom chicken is alternatively called 'popcorn chicken.' The seasoning was alright but the popcorn chicken broke into tiny chunks instead of shaped like popcorn. It was quite disappointing.

+ There weren't a lot of food vendors at the bazaar so we decided to just walk around the park and took a few pictures of dogs. The good thing about this particular mall is the pet-friendly park area. That black, tricolor corgi you see up there? He's old and antisocial. A poodle approached him but he was all sassy and refusing to socialize, even going as far as to threaten the poodle.

+ Aside from these, I've been waiting for my Colourpop products to arrive in the mail. Once I have them in my hands, I'm going to write a blog post about all the crap I purchased this month. I don't do haul or stuff like that but I just feel like doing a small show and tell once in a while, especially because December is a festive month.

+ A roundup review on 2017 reading challenge will be up soon....at least once I'm done with Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, which should be soon. Spoiler ahead, I failed the Goodreads reading challenge as I only managed to read 15 out of 20 books this year.

How did your week go?
