Clocked 006 | Catching Up

12 Mar 2017

I missed a month of weekend highlight post because I'm lazy like that, ha! Then again, if there's nothing interesting, I wouldn't write this post down. For this week, I have certain things to recap so let's go.

001. went to another interview for a freelance job opportunity. it was surprising for me because I don't see myself as a good enough potential that someone would even consider asking me to redesign their company website. I still need to attend a second interview for further discussion though but the first one went by — thankfully — smoothly.

the original abura soba / 63k IDR
002. went on a date and had soba at abura soba yamatoten for the first time. we heard a lot of good things about this place so why not try it for once. price wise, I wouldn't say it's food-court level budget because it's not (60k IDR / US$ 4.49) but it is delicious so, you a way, it's not a complete loss. boyfriend order the shigure don which is a donburi (rice bowl) topped with minced pork and half boiled egg and I picked the original abura soba served with spring onions, sesame seeds, bamboo shoots, dried seaweed and slices of tender roast pork.

*some of their choices give you the option to choose between pork or chicken. keep in mind that abura soba yamamoten's soba is not served cold. abura soba technically translates to "oil noodle" so yes, there's oil or sauce seasoning at the bottom of your bowl. read more here.

003. I'm a huge fan of koi cafe, especially their macchiato range. my favorite is their black tea macchiato, served with less ice / hot and with 25-50% sugar. koi cafe's macchiato is basically a layer of cream on top of your tea and I can assure you every single time I visit the place, I cannot bring myself to order other drinks!

001. went to watch Logan with the boyfriend and I'm still not over it. that last scene though, ugh *clenches heart* I will miss Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and he will always be The Wolverine. still, if Fox would just return the X-Men franchise back to its biological parent aka Marvel, I'm wishing for a new Wolverine film featuring Laura / X-23 because she's the new Wolverine in the comic book verse and it just needs to happen. I also think that Logan is the best solo film in the X-Men timeline, much like how Captain America's solo films are the best in the Avengers timeline. also, yes I'm more of a Team Mutant than Avengers. I don't care what you say, fight me.

002. The Flash Season 3, anyone? I'm digging the whole Kid Flash x Jesse Quick ship and of course, Julian x Caitlin too. Tom Felton's addition to the team is just a gift to mankind; he's sassy, sarcastic and started off as cold. apparently, Draco Malfoy has grown up into a forensic scientist in the muggle world and he chose to settle down in Central City instead of the wizarding world, ha. I'm not going to give away anything but I've been enjoying the show so much lately.

Lights & Motion is a Swedish cinematic post/alternative rock band with tons and tons of amazing scores and soundtracks that make such a good company for when you're reading, writing, studying....whatever really. I've been listening to Lights & Motion on spotify whenever I'm reading and it really does help provide some sparks in the atmosphere. even if it says rock band, don't worry because a). everything is rhythm and melody and b). there is no crazy and loud punk rock singing at all. I mean, duh, if you know what "cinematic band" sounds like, you'd know what I mean. if you're a film junkee like I am, you'd love Lights & Motion too. then again, even if you're not, please give it a try.

my favorite is Fireflies and the best part starts from 2:47 onwards. I've been repeating that part like crazy! oh and in case you're a fan of The Vampire Diaries, Fireflies was used in two episodes.

one of the perks I got from watching teen wolf is the discovery to great music. I found this song from teen wolf's season 6 and have been listening to it quite diligently ever since. it's also a perfect song for when you want to relax whilst, again, reading a book. it's definitely not a very upbeat song but it's not extremely "drive you to sleep" mellow either. it just feels like a gentle breeze, to be honest.

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater

“This is a love story. I never knew there were so many kinds of love or that love could make people do so many different things.
I never knew there were so many different ways to say goodbye.”

I finished reading this book in just 3 days. THREE DAYS. and I enjoyed it. Linger is the second book from Maggie Stiefvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. I wrote a quick review on Goodreads and also on this post, just in case you're curious about my detailed opinions.

I have the third book, Forever, in my iPad already so I might read that as soon as possible. who knows, I've been on a major reading mode lately and I love that about myself. it's also safe to say that this book is the one who managed to return that spark in me, making me want to read more.

Serpent's Kiss by Melissa de la Cruz

this is what I'm currently reading, alongside David Mitchell's The Bone Clocks which is such a difficult read. if you have been following my blog, you'd know that I've had The Bone Clocks in my hand since last year but I haven't been able to finish it. I didn't spend time reading it last year which was why I held onto it but there wasn't much progress.

as a result, I'm reading Serpent's Kiss by Melissa de la Cruz to take a break from The Bone Clocks. this is the second book from her Witches of East End / The Beauchamp Family series which was adapted into a tv series and got cancelled 3 years ago. the tv series and the book differ aren't exactly the same though. this book also deals with Norse mythology and may contain bits and pieces of mature scenes, however, nothing too graphic or intense.
